SAPPHIRE: a cool beauty

Sapphires, a highly valued gemstone, bring with them the rich cooling blue shades, a calm to the soul.

However, blue is not the only shade sapphires appear in. Pink, reddish, gray, black and colorless are some of the other shades they present.

Found in many southeast countries, the US and some African, they are the 3rd hardest mineral and rank 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

Valued not only for their color, they represent the September birthstone and 45th wedding anniversary.

Sapphires is considered The Wisdom Stone and also often worn to protect from the evil eye.

"The Logan Sapphire is a flawless specimen from Sri Lanka, a cushion-cut stone which possesses a rich deep blue color and is the second largest (blue) sapphire known, weighing 422.99 carats (84.6 g).

The stone, roughly the size of an egg, is one of the world's largest and most famous sapphires. The Logan Sapphire is named after Polly Logan, who donated the gemstone to the Smithsonian Institution in 1960.[1]"
